旅遊(tourism)的意義到底是什麼呢？
Alongside those who saw tourism primarily a force for peace and those who considered it first and foremost an economic engine, there’s a third group, which probably includes most of us. There are the people who thought of tourism as pure pleasure, a frivolous activity that doesn’t merit any serious thought, let alone scrutiny…
1. 旅遊可以促進人與人的了解，包容文化的多樣性，可以促進世界和平。
2. 旅遊是一個重要的產業，可以促進經濟發展，有利民生。
3. 旅遊純粹是一種追求快樂的過程。
……
以上這三種對旅遊的看法，其中把旅遊只視為旅人對快樂的追求，其負面可能是非常要命的。
譬如，到景點打卡代表到此一遊、產生擁擠的人潮、留下成堆的垃圾、漠視當地的人文背景和環境保育、充當花錢的消費任性大爺等等，就是把旅遊只當作享樂，其中的一種常見的偏差。

…”the certainty of annihilation” does provide us with a powerful motivation to venture away from home. It’s not because we have to distract ourselves from our impending doom. It’s because one of the most constructive things we can do in our flickering moment of life is to embrace the chance to leave our comfort zones—those dangerous lairs where we learn to languish—and seek out unfamiliar.
生也有涯。面對有限的生命，我們要把握當下的吉光片羽。離開熟悉的舒適圈去異地旅遊，就是很好的選擇。
For the new tourists among us, tourism is a powerful means toward this end,. Tourism compels us to reach beyond the languages, cultures, religions, and landscapes in which we feel most at home. Tourism asks us to find the courage to connect with the humanity in people who look, speak, dress, and pray in ways that may, at first glance, appear completely alien to us. Tourism inspires us to demand that our governments and the companies we patronize work to protect the people and places that we are so privileged to visit. And tourism compels us to recognize and confront the prejudices that continue to blind us, despite our best efforts. For the new tourist among us, tourism is a challenging—and often pleasurable—path toward a fuller and more compassionate life. Because the moment we make ourselves uncomfortable is the same moment that our souls begin to grow.
1. 旅遊迫使我們要面對不同的語言、文化、宗教、景致等等的衝擊。
2. 旅遊迫使我們去接觸，長相、表達、穿著或祈禱方式等等和我們不同的人群。
3. 旅遊使得當地的政府和企業會致力於保護相關的民族和景觀。
4. 旅遊的親眼所見，可以矯正我們出發前先入為主的偏見。
5. 旅遊既充滿挑戰也饒富趣味，使我們擁有更完美、熱忱的人生。在旅遊的過程中，我們必須面對陌生的辛苦調適，然而那同時也是令我們的心靈成長的泉源。
讀後
結論就是，要多去旅遊，多去看看不同的世界。
那麼，我們將更能接納別人的不同。人和人之間，因此更可以好好和平相處，而不需要有戰爭。
人生苦短，用旅遊增添我們生活的體驗，增加生命的厚度，那麼也就無忝所生了。
