生態系統(Ecosystem)由相互依存的個體一起運作的系統。
人力資源由內部員工和公司外的人力，形成一個互相依存的關係。他們個別有自己的目標，但一起運作來共同達成公司的目的，這就形成了所謂的「人力資源的生態系統」(Workforce ecosystems)。
A workforce ecosystem is a structure that encompasses actors, from within the organization and beyond, working to create value for an organization. Within the ecosystem, actors work toward individual and collective goals with interdependencies and complementarities among the participants.*
人力資源的生態系統的定義：
一個人力資源的生態系統，是由公司內部和外部的各種角色所組成的結構，目的是共同創造公司的價值。在這樣的生態系統內，每個角色除了達成自己的目標，也為共有的目標而努力，透過相互依存、互補的關係而運作。
讀後
把工作團隊當作一個生態系統看，可以給我們帶來一些啓示：
1. 公司外部的協作人員，對公司的成功也很重要。但是他們不是公司內直屬的員工，管理人員要知道，光是高壓式的頤指氣使是不管用的。
2. 經典的公司理論(firm theory)是說，如果自行雇用生產因素比外包方便便宜，那麼那些生產因素(人員、設備)就會變成公司內的一部分。所以當下工作團隊的生態系統，是自然而然「演進」之後的結果，它也會繼續「演進」。
3. 生產因素放在公司內部，控制可以更嚴但長期可能僵化而難以改變；生產因素由外部提供，可以更專業分工也更有彈性，但是就比較無法嚴格控制，所以對於需求規格品質就必須費心思量和要求。
4. 核心的生產因素如果外包，當生態系統受到壓力，公司的存在價值可能變得可有可無，不可不慎。
5. 人力資源生態系統是動態的，改變也是快的。個人透過一種職涯在一個公司做一輩子的可能性是低的。
6. 在人力資源生態系統中，每個人都可以找到貢獻的機會。問題是要不斷跟著改變、調整和學習才可以。
