Life List

Kangaroo Care is skin-to-skin contact between the mother and the preemie, like a baby kangaroo in its mothers pouch. These babies need physical contact to bond, but studies also show that holding a preemie against her mothers chest stabilizes her respiratory and heart rates. It conserves calories so the baby gains more weight, and it even regulates her body temperature. The mother acts as the incubators.*

The nursed told Brett how to do a Kangaroo Care on her newly born preemie while she was fulfilling one of those wishes she had made at fourteen years old,to have a baby. And she need to completes those unfulfilled ones in a year in order to receive inheritance according to her mothers will.

The wishes Brett made at fourteen year old are:

1. Have a baby,maybe two

2. Kiss Nick Nicol

3. Make the cheerleading squad

4. Earn straight As

5. Ski the Alps

6. Get a dog

7. Answer correctly when Sister Rose calls on me and Im talking to Carrie

8. Go to Paris

9. Stay friends with Carrie Newsome forever

10. Go to Northwestern

11. Be super friendly and nice

12. Help poor people

13. Have a real cool house

14. Buy a horse

15. Run with bulls

16. Learn French

17. Fall in love

18. Perform live,on a super big stage

19. Have a good relationship with my dad

20. Be an awesome teacher

Her mother had crossed item 2,3,4,5,7,8,10,11,15,and 16,either because it had already been fulfilled or not been allowed to do. So Brett needs to achieve item 1,6,9,12,13,14,17,18,19,and 20,within one year, before the next September.

To fall in love,to have a baby and to raise a horse? And within a year! How crazy the list looks like. Those are wishes we may make when we are small or young while our imagination had less constraints by reality.

However the story is less on what and how wishes are realized but more on how a 34-year-old daughter can discover herself by following her mothers will to complete the wish list which she had made 20 years ago.

Do you remember your list of wishes made when you were small? If there is any pending item, would you still want to continue to pursue regardless how unrealistic or difficult they might be?

I will and I wont. That is the question, not the answer.
