\u6211\u5011\u5df2\u7d93\u77e5\u9053\uff0c\u871c\u8702\u53ef\u4ee5\u5faa\u8457\u5473\u9053\u4ee5\u53ca\u82b1\u7684\u984f\u8272\uff0c\u4f86\u627e\u5230\u82b1\u7c89\u548c\u82b1\u871c\u3002\u800c\u5b83\u5011\u96c6\u9ad4\u8702\u6e67(swarm)\u7684\u884c\u70ba\uff0c\u5728\u9ad8\u901f\u651d\u5f71\u6a5f\u53ca\u96fb\u8166\u7684\u8a08\u7b97\u80fd\u529b\u4e4b\u4e0b\uff0c\u6211\u5011\u6709\u4e86\u9032\u4e00\u6b65\u7684\u4e86\u89e3\uff1a<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026 Seeley adapted digital technology to extend his experiments in a new direction: he convinced a computer engineer (who was intrigued by the similarities between bee swarms and driverless cars) to install a high-powered video camera at Seeley’s research site on Appledore Island, off the coast of Maine. Their goal: to create an algorithm that could automatically identify and track ten thousand speeding bees at once. After two painstaking years, the algorithm finally worked: powered by high-speed digital cameras and novel techniques in computer vision, it could identify each individual bee from the video footage and analyze its unique frenzied flight pattern. The algorithm revealed patterns undetectable to the human eye; decoding the diversity, density, and interactions in these patterns led Seeley to label the swarm as a<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“cognitive entity.” Perhaps Seeley’s most startling finding was that, in choosing a new home, honeybees exhibit sophisticated forms of democratic decision making, including collective fact finding, vigorous debate, consensus building, quorum, and a complex stop signal enabling cross-inhibition, which prevents an impasse being reached. The bee swarm, in other words, is a remarkably effective democratic decision-making body in motion, which bears resemblance to some processes in the human brain and human society. Seeley went so far as to claim that the collective interactions of individual bees were strikingly similar to the interactions between our individual neurons when collectively arriving at a decision. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seeley\u63a1\u7528\u6578\u4f4d\u79d1\u6280\u628a\u4ed6\u7684\u7814\u7a76\u64f4\u5c55\u5230\u4e00\u500b\u65b0\u7684\u9818\u57df\uff1a\u4ed6\u8aaa\u670d\u4e86\u4e00\u4f4d\u96fb\u8166\u5de5\u7a0b\u5e2b(\u4ed6\u5c0d\u4e00\u7fa4\u871c\u8702\u4e00\u8d77\u8702\u6e67(swarm)\u548c\u4e00\u5806\u7121\u4eba\u99d5\u99db\u8eca\u8f1b\u7684\u72c0\u6cc1\u7684\u76f8\u4f3c\u6027\u5341\u5206\u8457\u8ff7)\uff0c\u5728Seekey \u7dec\u56e0\u5dde\u5916\u6d77\u7684Appledore\u5cf6\u7684\u7814\u7a76\u5730\u9ede\u88dd\u4e86\u4e00\u99d5\u9ad8\u901f\u651d\u5f71\u6a5f\u3002\u4ed6\u5011\u7684\u76ee\u6a19\u662f\uff1a\u5275\u9020\u4e00\u500b\u53ef\u4ee5\u540c\u6642\u81ea\u52d5\u5075\u6e2c\u4e26\u8ffd\u8e64\u4e00\u842c\u96bb\u871c\u8702\u7684\u6f14\u7b97\u6cd5\u3002\u7d93\u904e\u5169\u5e74\u8271\u82e6\u7684\u52aa\u529b\uff0c\u6f14\u7b97\u6cd5\u7d42\u65bc\u5b8c\u6210\uff1a\u5728\u9ad8\u901f\u6578\u4f4d\u76f8\u6a5f\u548c\u6700\u65b0\u5f71\u50cf\u8655\u7406\u6280\u8853\u7684\u52a0\u6301\u4e4b\u4e0b\uff0c\u8a72\u6f14\u7b97\u6cd5\u5728\u5f71\u7247\u7247\u6bb5\u4e2d\u53ef\u4ee5\u8fa8\u8b58\u51fa\u6bcf\u4e00\u96bb\u871c\u8702\uff0c\u4e26\u4e14\u5206\u6790\u5b83\u7368\u7279\u72c2\u4e82\u7684\u98db\u884c\u6a21\u5f0f\u3002\u8a72\u6f14\u7b97\u6cd5\u63ed\u9732\u4e86\u4eba\u773c\u7121\u6cd5\u770b\u51fa\u4f86\u7684\u6a21\u5f0f\uff0c\u96a8\u8457\u5c0d\u98db\u884c\u6a21\u5f0f\u4e2d\u7684\u591a\u6a23\u6027\u3001\u5bc6\u5ea6\u548c\u4e92\u52d5\u983b\u7387\u7684\u89e3\u78bc\uff0cSeeley\u628a\u8702\u6e67(swarm)\u89e3\u8b80\u70ba\u300c\u4e00\u500b\u6709\u8a8d\u77e5\u80fd\u529b\u7684\u6574\u9ad4\u300d(cognitive entity)\u3002 \u6216\u8a31Seeley\u6700\u4ee4\u4eba\u9a5a\u5606\u7684\u767c\u73fe\u662f\uff0c\u5728\u5c0b\u627e\u4e00\u500b\u5730\u65b9\u5efa\u7acb\u65b0\u7684\u8702\u7aa9\uff0c\u871c\u8702\u5c55\u73fe\u4e86\u6210\u719f\u7684\u6c11\u4e3b\u6c7a\u7b56\u6a21\u5f0f\uff0c\u5305\u62ec\u96c6\u9ad4\u7684\u73fe\u6cc1\u8490\u96c6\u3001\u6fc0\u70c8\u7684\u722d\u8ad6\u3001\u7d2f\u7a4d\u5171\u8b58\u3001\u9054\u5230\u8db3\u5920\u7684\u8d0a\u6210\u591a\u6578\u3001\u767c\u51fa\u505c\u6b62\u7684\u8a0a\u865f\u4ee5\u907f\u514d\u9677\u5165\u50f5\u5c40\u7b49\u7b49\u3002\u871c\u8702\u7684\u8702\u6e67(swarm)\uff0c\u63db\u53e5\u8a71\u8aaa\uff0c\u662f\u4e00\u500b\u5f88\u4e86\u4e0d\u8d77\u7684\u6709\u6548\u6c11\u4e3b\u6c7a\u7b56\u9ad4\u5728\u904b\u4f5c\uff0c\u5f88\u50cf\u4eba\u7684\u8166\u888b\u548c\u4eba\u985e\u793e\u6703\u4e2d\u7684\u6c7a\u7b56\u7a0b\u5e8f\u3002Seeley\u751a\u81f3\u9032\u4e00\u6b65\u5ba3\u7a31\uff0c\u500b\u5225\u871c\u8702\u4e4b\u9593\u7684\u96c6\u9ad4\u4e92\u52d5\uff0c\u975e\u5e38\u985e\u4f3c\u7576\u6211\u5011\u8981\u505a\u6210\u4e00\u500b\u6c7a\u5b9a\uff0c\u8166\u4e2d\u500b\u5225\u795e\u7d93\u5143\u4e4b\u9593\u7684\u95dc\u4fc2\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seeley’s findings, published in Science and widely popularized in the media, bolstered the arguments of those who argued in favor of referring to honeybee communication as language. And by demonstrating that the “hive mind” was more than mere metaphor, Seeley also stimulated advances in swarm intelligence in robotics and engineering. Seeley’s research, predicated on digital technology (computer vision and machine learning) eventually came full circle: his findings inspired two computer scientists at Georgia Tech to create the Honey Bee algorithm, which is now an integral part of the multibillion dollar cloud computer industry. The algorithm, widely used in internet hosting centers (analogous to hives), optimizes the allocation of servers (analogous to foraging bees) among jobs (analogous to nectar sources), thereby helping to deal with sudden spikes in demand and preventing long queues\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
